- Surfdog Records is a record label and music publishing company based in Encinitas, California, The United States of America with close ties to the local music and surfing communities. Its roster is diverse and includes artists of the rock, punk, swing, rockabilly, reggae, lounge and alternative genres. It has released albums by Brian Setzer, the Butthole Surfers, Agent 51, Gary Hoey, Pato Banton, Sprung Monkey, Slightly Stoopid, Echobrain, and Tea Leaf Green, among others. Surfdog Records was founded by Dave Kaplan in 1993. Kaplan was an artist manager until 1985 when he signed his first ever band, UB40, to Surfdog. Surfdog music has been featured in many motion pictures including Dude, Where's My Car? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mission: Impossible II, Stuart Little, and The Real World. Surfdog Records have released three M.O. M (Music For Mother Ocean) albums, and those three albums contributed to the most donations in Surfrider Foundation's history up till then. The three M.O. M albums feature very big artists like Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam, Sublime, James Taylor, Snoop Dogg, Jimmy Buffett, and No Doubt.
