Sucidava (Sykibid after Procopius, Σucidava after Pârvan, where Σ is pronounced "sh") is a Dacian and Daco-Roman historical site, situated in Corabia, Romania on the north bank of the Danube. There can be found: the first Christian Basilica in Romania and the foot of a Roman bridge over the Danube built by Constantine the Great to link Sucidava with Oescus; there is also a secret underground fountain which flows under the walls of the town to a water spring situated outside.

Heute noch zu sehen sind die Verteidigungsmauern der Festung aus dem 4. bis 5. Jahrhundert. Gefunden wurden auch römische Bäder, eine christliche Basilika aus dem 5. bis 6. Jahrhundert sowie Straßen. Bemerkenswert ist der "geheime Brunnen" der Burg, eine Ingenieurmeisterleistung seiner Zeit, die die Wasserversorgung auch während einer Belagerung sicherstellen sollte. Hier wurde während der Regierungszeit des römischen Kaisers Konstantin der Große auch eine Brücke über die Donau gebaut; die Einweihung fand 328 n. Chr. statt. Die Brücke hatte eine Länge von über 2400 Metern und war damit eine der längsten Brücken der Antike. Sie bestand nur kurze Zeit. Ein Pfeiler (Fuß) ist noch heute zu sehen.

From archeological point of view the coins found at Sucidava show an uninterrupted series from Aurelian (270-275) to Theodosius II (408-450). The archeological evidence show that in AD 443 or 447 the city suffered from attacks of the Huns, still the city was restored under Justin I 518-527 or Justinian I 527-565. Around 600, it seems that the Roman garrison abandoned the city.
