Die Reaktionen der Kritiker waren durchwachsen, die Nachfolger Full Gear (1988) und Blood, Sweat & No Tears (1991) jedoch wurden in den Rezensionen gefeiert. Full Gear enthielt die beiden bekanntesten Stücke der Gruppe, Talkin' All That Jazz und Sally. Talkin' All That Jazz basiert auf der Bassline des Jazz-Funk-Stücks Expansions (1974) von Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes und einem Sample des Jazz-Trompeters Donald Byrd (*1932). In selbstbezüglicher Weise verteidigt der Text eben diese Art, aus Versatzstücken älterer Musik etwas musikalisch Neues zu schaffen, gegen die damals verbreitete Kritik von Samples als "Diebstahl". Bald nach der Veröffentlichung von Blood, Sweat & No Tears (1991) zerfiel die Gruppe. Prince Paul, der sich bereits durch die Produktion des Debütalbums Three Feet High And Rising von De La Soul einen sehr guten Ruf erworben hatte, begann eine Karriere als Produzent; ebenso Daddy O, der unter anderem für Mary J. Blige und die Red Hot Chili Peppers arbeitete. Frukwan und Prince Paul waren beide bei den Gravediggaz tätig.
