Stephen Hopkins (born in 1958) is a Jamaican born British film director and producer. He also has two brothers. In 2004 he directed the controversial biopic The Life and Death of Peter Sellers which raised the ire of the actor's son Michael Sellers. Hopkins was a co-executive producer for the first season of the Fox action drama 24, and also directed half of the season's episodes, including the first and last episodes.

Mit Blown Away, einem Actionthriller mit Jeff Bridges und Tommy Lee Jones, sowie Der Geist und die Dunkelheit mit Val Kilmer und Michael Douglas folgten zwei weitere erfolgreiche Großproduktionen. 1998 realisierte er mit großer Besetzung die Kinofassung der Fernsehserie Lost in Space. Trotz enormen technischen Aufwands war dem Film kein Erfolg beschert und eine geplante Fortsetzung wurde nicht realisiert. Als auch sein nächster Film Under Suspicion mit Morgan Freeman und Gene Hackman floppte, zog es Hopkins zurück zum Fernsehen, nachdem er schon 1989 3 Episoden der Fernsehserie Tales from the Crypt inszenierte. Er führte bei 12 der 24 Episoden der 1. Staffel der bahnbrechenden Fernsehserie 24 (Fernsehserie) Regie, die auch Hauptdarsteller Kiefer Sutherland zurück aus der Versenkung holte.
