Possibly the most eagerly awaited release of her career, "Spinning Around" achieved gold status in Australia prior to the album being released. The first single from her Light Years album, caused a sensation by propelling Minogue back to the top of the charts, debuting at No. 1 in both the UK and Australia. In the United Kingdom, "Spinning Around" has sold 245,000 copies, being certified Silver. The song became Minogue's first number-one single in Australia since "Confide In Me" (1994) and her first in the UK since "Tears on My Pillow" ten years earlier. "Spinning Around" also gave Minogue the honor of being one of three artists to have a number-one in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. "Spinning Around" won Minogue Best Pop Release at the prestigious ARIA Awards in Australia and featured two previously unreleased tracks — "Paper Dolls" and "Cover Me with Kisses".
