Mit dem Begriff wird eine schnelle Spielform des Garage House (ca. 130 bis 140 bpm, im Gegensatz dazu hat der „normale“ Garage House nur 115 bis 125 bpm) bezeichnet, der jedoch mit Elementen aus dem Drum ’n’ Bass gespickt ist, vor allem mit den typischen Subbässen, die für dieses Genre charakteristisch sind. Speed Garage wurde im England von einer sehr schicken Szene konsumiert. Wie die Legende es möchte, wurde dieser Musikstil zuerst an sonntäglichen Veranstaltungen gespielt, wo viele Kinder wohlhabender Familien nach dem obligatorischen Mittagsdinner zusammenkamen. Diese Veranstaltungen fanden somit meist nachmittags (statt nachts) statt, und das am meisten konsumierte Getränk war Champagner - so zumindest das Klischee. Die Modewelle ebbte jedoch schnell wieder ab, bis um die Jahrtausendwende der Stil zum 2 Step mutierte.

Charakteristické jsou: silná reggae basa, monotónní rytmus House Music prokládaný (zrychlenými) breakbeaty, to vše je doplněno soulovými nebo disco vokály a zvukovými technikami a efekty z Jungle / Drum'n'Bass. Vlna Speed Garage výrazněji ovlivnila pouze dění na britských ostrovech a přibližně po roce 2000 byla vytlačena komerčnější odnoží 2Step. Po roce 2005 existuje již pouze jako minoritní retro/revival vlna Bassline House.
