A Spanish American is a citizen or resident of the United States with ethnic origins in the southwestern European nation of Spain. Spanish Americans are the earliest European American group, with a continuous presence since 1565. For 2007, the American Community Survey estimates give a total of 354,019 Americans classified as "Spaniard". Of these, 293,295 were U.S. -born.
