So-Lo is a Danny Elfman album recorded with his band Oingo Boingo. The band chose to record the album as a "backup band" for their longtime frontman primarily to circumvent a dispute with their label. It has also been stated that this was an opportunity for the band to record songs that had been deemed unsuitable for a proper Oingo Boingo album.

  • So-Lo is a Danny Elfman album recorded with his band Oingo Boingo. The band chose to record the album as a "backup band" for their longtime frontman primarily to circumvent a dispute with their label. It has also been stated that this was an opportunity for the band to record songs that had been deemed unsuitable for a proper Oingo Boingo album. There are two versions of the album: The original LP and cassettes had a version of "Gratitude" that had a spoken word middle, and fades out at the end. This is the same version that appears on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. The second version, which removes the spoken word middle of "Gratitude", and does not fade out at the end of the song, began appearing on the cassette releases in 1986. The CD version of So-Lo was never released with the original mix, and therefore the only way to get a digital version of the original mix is from the CD release of the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack.
