Sinsemilia, also known as Sinsé, is a reggae band that was formed in Grenoble in 1990. The name of the group is very similar to the cannabis plants "Sinsemilla," which are the unfertilised, thus seedless, female plants. The band first used this name in concert at the Fête de la Musique in 1991, referring to the reggae album Sinsemilia by Black Uhuru. This first concert drew one thousand attendants, and in the following fifteen years more than one million albums have been sold.

Since the success of their first album and their single Tout le bonheur du monde, Sinsemilia has helped French reggae gain the attention of the media. In 2005, because of the success of Tout le bonheur du monde, they were invited by the editors of France 2 to appear on the 1 pm news. They began their performance but were quickly interrupted because of their politically charged song Bienvenue en Chiraquie, which provoked a small media scandal. Before their latest album, their involvement with politics increased substantially. The solo careers of two of the singers and keyboard player, and their changes to an anticonformist and anti-consumption perspective has significantly delayed the release of their next album.

Für ihr Album "Résistances" haben Sinsemilia eine Reggae-Version des Liedes "La mauvaise réputation" des Chansonniers Georges Brassens eingespielt. 2004 verließ der Saxophonist Loucos die Gruppe und wurde von 2 neuen Mitgliedern ersetzt: Bozo, der Loucos ersetzt, und Olivier (Trompete), was nun wiederum Fabien ermöglicht mehr mit der Gitarre und dem Klavier mitzuspielen. Seit der Hitsingle "Tout le Bonheur du Monde" (2005) erfreut sich der französische Reggae der Band großer Beliebtheit.

C'est en 1991, à l'occasion de la fête de la musique, que le groupe choisit pour le premier concert ce nom en référence à l'album de reggae Sinsemilia de Black Uhuru. Ce premier concert en amorcera plus de mille, et plus d'un million d'albums auront été vendus 15 ans plus tard. Depuis le succès de leur dernier album et du single Tout le bonheur du monde, Sinsemilia aura permis une certaine médiatisation du reggae français. L'album des Sinsés datant de 2004, bien que moins engagé que leurs albums précédents, a su conserver certaines convictions que portent le groupe. Le dernier album sorti le 26 janvier 2009 marque bel et bien le retour du groupe à ses racines. Très critique sur la société et avec des vibes qui ont fait le succès de Sinsémilia.
