- In J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, the best known Silvan Elves are the Elves of northern Mirkwood and Lothlórien. In the First Age the Elves of Ossiriand, or Laiquendi, were also referred to as wood-elves. Silvan Elves (more properly called "Tawarwaith") are a multicultural society; mainly Nandorin descent but also mixed with Avari, Sindar and Noldor and governed by Sindarin rulers. Examples of these rulers are Thranduil king of northern Mirkwood, Amdír, and his son, Amroth, the last Sindarin prince of Lórien before the rule of Galadriel and Celeborn (of Noldorin/Telerin and Sindarin descent, respectively). Silvan Elves are described as being less wise than other Eldar, and some of them almost are indistinguishable from the Avari, those who never joined the Great Journey.

C'est une des trois principales branches d'Elfes qui habitent la Terre du Milieu, conjointement avec les Noldor et les Sindar. Son origine est très diffuse, mais il est probable qu'il s'agisse d'un mélange d'Avari (ceux qui fuirent les Valar après la naissance des Elfes) et de Nandor (ceux qui, ayant accepté les Valar, les quittèrent rapidement et s'établirent à proximité du fleuve Anduin). Une partie d'entre eux, ayant réalisé le voyage vers Beleriand furent connus par les Elfes Sindar comme les Elfes Nandor ou Laiquendi, c'est-à-dire Elfes Verts, qui s'établirent en Ossiriand.

- Galadhrimowie to plemię elfów w Śródziemiu - fikcyjnym świecie z utworów J. R. R. Tolkiena. Nazwa ta obejmowała wszystkich elfów zamieszkujących Lorien i w wolnym tłumaczeniu znaczyła "lud drzew", co odnosiło się do lasów porastających Lorien. Byli oni poddanymi królowej Lorien Galadrieli powierniczki Nenyi, i króla Celeborna.

Лесные Эльфы (по-эльфийски называемые «Tawarwaith», а по-английски «Sylvan Elves») происходят от нандор, но правят ими синдар и нолдор.
