Between 1979 until the Soviet troop withdrawal from Afghanistan in 1989 there were no sieges of the city. In the period following the the collapse of the Republic of Afghanistan until Talibans fall after the American led coalition intervention in 2001 which resulted in the last siege of Kabul.
