Shibu Soren (born 11 January 1944) is an Indian politician who was Chief Minister of Jharkhand state in India from 2008 to 2009. He was sworn in as the 6th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on August 27, 2008 and won a trust vote on August 29 in the Legislative Assembly. He previously represented the Dumka constituency of Jharkhand in the 14th Lok Sabha and is the President of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) political party, a constituent of the UPA.

On January 9, 2009, Soren was heavily defeated in the by-election to the Tamar assembly constituency to political novice Gopal Krishan Patar alias Raja Peter of the Jharkhand Party by a substantial margin of over 9,000 votes. Soren was earlier reappointed as Chief Minister of Jharkhand on August 27, 2008 after his life term in the Shashinath Jha murder case was set aside by the Delhi High Court in August, 2007 citing the CBI as "miserably failing" in proving Soren's involvement in the crime. The acquittal verdict, which was based on a technicality, did not go down well with the Jharkhand public which decided to teach him a lesson at the polls. Soren now has to step down from Chief Ministership failing to get elected to the state legislature within 6 months of his appointment. He was the Minister for Coal in the Union Cabinet in November 2006, when a Delhi district court found him guilty in the murder of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha in 1994. He has also been indicted in the past on other criminal charges.

Han är ledamot av Lok Sabha för valkretsen Dumka i Jharkhand sedan 1989. Shibu Soren arbetade först på sina föräldrars jordbruk, och inledde sin politiska karriär under tidigt 1970-tal, när han blev ledande bland stamfolken i sitt område.
