Mukesh Khanna plays the role of Shaktiman and his alter-ego Pandit Gangadhar vidyadhardhar mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri, a photographer for the Aaj Tak newspaper like Deepak Chaurasia. Like Superman, Shaktimaan has super strength, the ability to fly high in the sky, and is invulnerable to things that cause injuries on the body. The characterization of Shaktimaan and Gangadhar is inspired from Superman where the superhero lives and works in a city as the reporter Clark Kent. The character of Geeta Viswas is inspired from Lois Lane who is also a reporter in the Superman series and loves Shaktimaan very much. In the wake of the 2001 Gujarat Earthquake, Mukesh Khanna toured the affected areas in character as Shaktimaaan, along with local villager Vishal Kansara of Navsari, topping morale and giving relief to people.
