Schimatari, older forms: -o and -on is a town and a municipality in the Boeotia Prefecture, Greece. Population 8,095 (2001). It became one the prefecture's largest communities (towns and cities). The Asopus River is 3 to 4 km to the south. Schimatari along with Tanagra are the northwesternmost city in the Greater Athens area. Attica is approximately 10 km to the east. Schimatari is linked with the new GR-1 with its nearby unnumbered interchange, also the GR-1 superhighway.
