The band's name references the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Band member Jason Null came up with the name saying “I Googled the story of Cain and Abel and found a line about ‘there was no saving Abel,’ which just jumped out at me. ”

- Saving Abel est un groupe rock américain formé par Jared Weeks et Jason Null en 2004, dans leur petite ville natale de Corinthe. Le nom du groupe trouve son origine en référence à l'histoire biblique de Caïn et Abel. Alors que Jared Weeks jouait de la guitare en compagnie de son meilleur ami, Jason Null se produisait dans un autre groupe local. Suite à leur rencontre, tous deux écrivirent et aiguisèrent le style d'écriture intime, qui caractérise désormais le groupe Saving Abel. Au début de l'année 2005, Skidd Mills, célèbre producteur (ZZ Top, Saliva, et Robert Cray), fut marqué par leur talent, et prit la désision de leur offrir un studio d'enregistrement. Peu à peu, d'autres membres sont venus agrandir le groupe :le guitariste Scott Bartlett, le bassiste Eric Taylor et le batteur Blake Dixon.
