San Marcos has become the host of the Catholic Campus of Ave Maria University. This is the only American University in Nicaragua,and Central America. Students from all over Central America and the United States go to San Marcos To study in this university. Critics, however, point out that it is very expensive (circa US$5,000 per semester) and it's not even accredited.
