Saidai-ji (西大寺) or the "Great Western Temple" is a Buddhist temple in the city of Nara, Nara Prefecture, Japan. The temple was established in AD 765 as a counterpart to Tōdai-ji and it is the main temple of the Shingon Risshu (真言律宗) sect of Buddhism after the sect's founder, Eison, took over administration in 1238. One building, the Aizen-dō, houses a statue of Aizen Myō-ō, while the main image is of Shakyamuni Buddha, erected by Eison in 1249.

Eison wurde dort als Vorsteher von seinem Schüler Shinkū (信空) abgelöst. In der Meiji-Zeit wurde der Tempel vollständig unabhängig und als Haupttempel der zur eigenen Schule Shingon-Risshū (真言律宗) avancierten Bewegung anerkannt. Eine der populärsten Zeremonien am Saidai-ji ist die aus der Kamakura-Zeit stammende Tee-Zeremonie namens Ō-chamori (大茶盛), die am zweiten Sonntag im April und dem vorhergehenden Samstag sowie am zweiten Sonntag im Oktober stattfindet. Dabei wird Matcha in überdimensionierten Teeschalen (Durchmesser > 50 cm) mit riesigen Chasen (茶筅) zubereitet.
