Sie war zweimal verheiratet: Von 1988 bis 1997 mit dem Musiker Gary Kemp sowie von 1997 bis 2003 mit dem Schauspieler Jude Law. Sie hat vier Kinder: Finley (* 1990), Rafferty (* 1996), Iris (* 2000) und Rudy (* 2002). Das öfters kolportierte Gerücht, dass ihre Eltern (David Vaughn und Mary Davidson) bei der Wahl ihres Vornamens durch den Beatles-Song Sexy Sadie inspiriert wurden, ist unzutreffend, da dieser Song erst im August 1968 aufgenommen wurde. Ihre Schwester Holly Davidson ist ebenfalls Schauspielerin.
