Seit März 2004 sind auch IDN-Domainnamen («Umlautdomains») möglich. Der SWITCH-Nameserver befindet sich im IFW-Gebäude der ETH Zürich. Im Jahr 2007 hat SWITCH den SWITCH Junior Web Award, einen Website-Wettbewerb für Schulklassen aus der Schweiz und Liechtenstein, lanciert. Die Initiative hat zum Ziel, das Internet Know-how bei Schülerinnen und Schülern zu fördern. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos. Im Jahr 2009 hat SWITCH das Tochterunternehmen switchplus gegründet, das Dienstleistungen rund um die Registrierung von Domain-Namen anbietet. Momentan (Stand April 2011) sind 1,5 Mio. Domainnamen mit der Endung «. ch» sowie 65.000 Namen mit «. li» bei SWITCH registriert.
