STh is the usual abbreviation for Student in Theology, or Diploma of Student in Theology, such as in the Lambeth Diploma of Student in Theology. The Lambeth Diploma of Student in Theology was originally introduced in 1905 to assist women in their study of theology, but from 1944 was opened up to men. Originally awarded after examination in different branches of Theology, the option to take this by thesis was later introduced. Most candidates now opt to take the STh by thesis.

Candidates must pass, or be exempted from, a paper in New Testament Greek. The original standard was that of a university honours degree and is presently that of a postgraduate diploma. Successful candidates are awarded their diplomas by the Archbishop of Canterbury at an annual service in Lambeth Palace Chapel, and may wear academic dress as follows: a black stuff hood of full Cambridge shape, the lining divided horizontally, so that when worn the white silk appears over light blue silk. This is an unusual pattern for academic hoods and therefore some STh hoods have been made of black stuff of full Cambridge shape, lined mid-blue silk and the cowl faced with 8 inches of white silk. The gown is of the London BA pattern: but with blue cords and buttons on the sleeves.
