Ruth Laredo was an American classical pianist referred to as "America's First Lady of the Piano". A precocious starter, she was able to play God Bless America on her mother's piano at age two. Miss Meckler attended Detroit's Mumford High School (Class of 1956) and, under the tutelage of Rudolf Serkin, she graduated from Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music in 1960. She won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1962. She was married for some time to violinist Jaime Laredo.
