Dialects include Ekhirit, Unga, Ninzne-Udinsk, Barguzin, Tunka, Oka, Alar, Bohaan, Bulagat. It is heavily influenced by Russian. Russia Buriat is the official language of the Buryat Republic of Russia. The variety used in newspapers is that of the area around Irkutsk, west of Lake Baikal.
