Ruhi Sarıalp was a Turkish track and field athlete, who competed mainly in the triple jump. He competed for Turkey in the 1948 Summer Olympics held in London, Great Britain in the triple jump, where he won the bronze medal with a mark of 15.02 m. He started athletics during his education at the military high school in Konya. In 1945, he broke the Turkish record in triple jump.

After his bronze medal jump at the Olympics, he won another bronze medal at the 1950 European Athletics Championships in Brussels, Belgium. He became so the first ever track and field athlete from Turkey to win a medal at the Olympics and the European Championships. Ruhi Sarıalp became champion at the World Military Athletics Championships held 1951 in Rome, Italy by breaking the World record. He repeated his first place in the same championships of 1952 After leaving the active sports, Ruhi Sarıalp served as a lecturer for physical education in the School of Maritime at Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ). The indoor sports hall of İTÜ, located in the Tuzla district of Istanbul, is named after him. He was a member of the supreme council of the Fenerbahçe SK athletic branch Fenerbahçe Athletics. He died on March 3, 2001 in Izmir due to agonal respiration, and was laid to rest in the Edirnekapı Martyr's Cemetery in Istanbul. He was married with Ayşe Cebesoy, a niece of the renowned Turkish statesman Ali Fuat Cebesoy.

Sarıalp, destijds een atleet van sportclub Fenerbahçe, behaalde een bronzen medaille tijdens de Olympische Zomerspelen van 1948. Tot 1948 had geen enkel Turkse atleet een medaille weten te behalen tijdens de Olympische Spelen bij het onderdeel atletiek. Ruhi Sarıalp begon met atletiek tijdens zijn periode in de militaire hogeschool te Konya. In 1945 brak hij het Turkse record hink-stap-springen. Na zijn bronzen medaille tijdens de OS in 1948, waar hij 15,02 meter sprong, behaalde hij in 1950 tijdens de Europese Atletiekkampioenschappen te Brussel eveneens een bronzen medaille. Verder werd Sarıalp kampioen in zowel 1951 als in 1952 tijdens de Militaire Wereldkampioenschappen. In 1951 verbrak hij zelfs het wereldrecord. Na het beëindigen van zijn actieve loopbaan, ging hij aan de slag op de Technische Universiteit van Istanbul. Hier gaf Sarıalp colleges over lichamelijke opvoeding. Eén van de sporthallen van deze universiteit is tegenwoordig vernoemd naar de atleet. Sarıalp bleef ook nog lang actief bij Fenerbahçe. Sarıalp overleed op 3 maart 2001, op 76-jarige leeftijd.

Bu şampiyonada alınan madalya da 2002 yılında Süreyya Ayhan Kop'un 1500 metrede kazandığı altın madalya hariç Türkiye'nin kazandığı tek madalya oldu. 1951-52 yıllarında askerde olduğu için Ordu milli takımında yeralan Sarıalp, Dünya Ordularararası Atletizm Şampiyonası'nda hem 1951 hem de 1952'de iki altın madalya kazandırdı.
