At the far end is the Berlaymont building on the Schuman roundabout and Cinquantenaire beyond that. Shortly before the roundabout, the central part of the road sinks underground into the subterranean Belliard Tunnel (the continuation of the N3 motorway) that runs under the roundabout and Cinquantenaire.

Het is een van de drukste invalswegen van Brussel. Aan de kant van het Schumanplein bevindt zich de Europese wijk van Brussel met onder meer het Berlaymontcomplex, het Justus Lipsius-gebouw en andere kantoorgebouwen van de Europese Unie. Aan de andere kant eindigt de Wetstraat tussen het Warandepark en het gebouw van het Belgische parlement: het Paleis der Natie met de Kamer van Volksvertegenwoordigers en de Senaat, evenals het kabinet van de Eerste Minister (op het huisnummer 16). Hierdoor wordt de term "de Wetstraat" in de media vaak gebruikt om te verwijzen naar de Belgische federale politiek (het parlement en/of de regering); vergelijk het gebruik van "het Binnenhof" voor de Nederlandse nationale politiek. In de toekomst zal de Wetstraat grondig heringericht worden. In plaats van de drukke verkeersweg, zoals de Wetstraat nu (stand 2009) is, zal het groene boulevard worden. Het aantal rijbanen voor het wegverkeer zal tot twee (dus één in elke richting) teruggebracht worden. Ook komt er een trambaan in het midden. De werken moeten in 2011 beginnen.
