- Roy Thomas Baker (aka RTB) Internationally renowned multi gold, platinum and award winning English music producer, songwriter and arranger whose unique production technique created a number of extremely popular pop and rock records from the 1970s to the present. Although born in London, England in 1956 he now splits his time between his homes in Los Angeles, Europe, and his recording studio in Arizona. Baker got his start at Decca Records in England at the age of 14. Later he moved to Trident Studios, where he worked with music producers such as Gus Dudgeon, Tony Visconti, Jagger/Richards and Frank Zappa. After co-founding Neptune/Trident Productions' record company, a chance meeting between Roy Thomas Baker and a band that would eventually be known as Queen, culminated in a successful relationship that lasted for five masterpiece albums and a multitude of award winning hit singles including Grammy and The Guinness World Records Prize for the best single, "Bohemian Rhapsody" and, if nothing else deserves his place in history merely based on that brilliant, pristine, and utterly perfect track. Simply put, Baker made big records. It wasn't until he paired up with the Cars that he scaled down his trademark production sound and the result, with his quirky use of electronics and eighth note rhythms, eventually became known as new wave. Yet Baker, who made his name with Queen and the Cars, is nowhere near a one trick pony and his flawless production has also helped the likes of Nazareth, Guns N' Roses, The Who, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Foreigner, Journey, Pilot, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, T. Rex, Devo, The Stranglers, Dusty Springfield, Starcastle, T'Pau, Yes, Cheap Trick, Gasolin' and The Darkness. Most recently he has worked with The Smashing Pumpkins on their 2007 album, Zeitgeist. In 2008 he produced at his recording studio in Arizona "The Storm" which has since been certified gold also he produced "Again, Again, Again" (The Crux) for The Smashing Pumpkins American Gothic. The Smashing Pumpkins' Jimmy Chamberlin said, the only times Baker complained during the making of Zeitgeist were when he was denied a permit to build a helipad at his California mansion, and when he had to sell a castle he owned back in England.
