The northern and western sides are one continuous barrier reef, and the eastern side is another. This natural atoll was named Ross Atoll by Captain Robert Moresby during his survey of the Maldive Islands, after Captain Daniel Ross of the Bombay Navy, one of the first surveyors of the area. Captain Ross made brilliant surveys in the China Seas and later became the East India Company's Marine Surveyor General in Calcutta. The main island in this atoll is Rasdhoo. Kuramathi Tourist Resort is also located in this small atoll.

Am Rande des Atolls befinden sich die Touristeninseln Kuramathi im Süden und Veligandu im Nord-Osten, die Einheimischeninsel Rasdhoo im Süd-Osten, sowie die zwei kleinen unbewohnten Inseln Madivaru und Madivaru-Finolhu im Osten. Durch die 3 Kanäle: North-Channel, Rasdhoo-Channel sowie Madivaru-Channel ist ein Wasseraustausch zwischen Außenriff und Lagune möglich. Rings um das Außenriff befinden sich zudem viele interessante Tauchplätze. Das Rasdhoo-Atoll wird auch von Maldivian Air Taxi angeflogen und ist somit in 20 Minuten vom Flughafen erreichbar. Administrativ gehört das Atoll zum nördlichen Ari-Atoll.
