He served as a music arranger for the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra in his early years. He turned to film music in 1968. Ragland created the scores for films such as Seven Alone, Abby, ', Return to Macon County, Sharks Treasure, Grizzly, Mansion of the Doomed, Q- The Winged Serpent, 10 To Midnight, The Fear, Plato's Run, and Crime and Punishment.
