Volk also played in the Super Bowl twice for the Baltimore Colts as a member of the Super Bowl III team and the Super Bowl V winning team. His 30-yard interception return in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl V set up a touchdown that helped the Colts win the game. Volk was knocked unconscious during Super Bowl III when he collided helmet-to-helmet with Jets fullback Matt Snell. During the highlight film for the game, a cut shows Volk lying on the sideline knocked out while a trainer administers smelling salts in an attempt to wake him. Volk retired with 38 career interceptions, which he returned for 574 yards and a touchdown, along with 13 fumble recoveries. He is the nephew of Bob Chappuis.
