Richard Robert Volk (born March 15, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio) is a former American football player. He attended Wauseon High School in Wauseon, Ohio. He played college football at the University of Michigan, where he was selected as a first-team All-American by the Sporting News in 1966. Volk played as a strong safety for twelve seasons in the NFL. He was four time selected as an NFL All-Pro (1968-1971) and three times played in the Pro Bowl (1967, 1969, 1971).

Volk played as a strong safety for twelve seasons in the NFL. He was four time selected as an NFL All-Pro (1968-1971) and three times played in the Pro Bowl (1967, 1969, 1971). Volk also played in the Super Bowl twice for the Baltimore Colts as a member of the Super Bowl III team and the Super Bowl V winning team. His 30-yard interception return in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl V set up a touchdown that helped the Colts win the game. Volk was knocked unconscious during Super Bowl III when he collided helmet-to-helmet with Jets fullback Matt Snell. During the highlight film for the game, a cut shows Volk lying on the sideline knocked out while a trainer administers smelling salts in an attempt to wake him. Volk retired with 38 career interceptions, which he returned for 574 yards and a touchdown, along with 13 fumble recoveries. He is the nephew of Bob Chappuis.
