| - Rich Internet applications (RIAs) are web applications that have some of the characteristics of desktop applications, typically delivered by way of a proprietary web browser plug-ins or independently via sandboxes or virtual machines. Examples of RIA frameworks include Adobe Flex/AIR, Java/JavaFX, uniPaaS and Microsoft Silverlight. The term was introduced in the 1990s by vendors like Macromedia who were addressing limitations at the time in the "richness of the application interfaces, media and content, and the overall sophistication of the solutions" by introducing proprietary extensions. As web standards have developed and web browsers' compliance has improved there is less need for such extensions, and Javascript compilers with their associated desktop-like widget sets reduce the need for browser extensions even further. HTML 5 delivers a full-fledged application platform; "a level playing field where video, sound, images, animations, and full interactivity with your computer are all standardized". It is now possible to build RIA-like Web applications that run in all modern browsers without the need of special run-times or plug-ins. This means that if one could run a modern Ajax-based Web application outside of a web browser it would essentially be an RIA, though there is some contention as to whether this is actually the case. - RIA, acrónimo de Rich Internet Applications (Aplicaciones de Internet Enriquecidas) son un nuevo tipo de aplicaciones con más ventajas que las tradicionales aplicaciones Web. Esta surge como una combinación de las ventajas que ofrecen las aplicaciones Web y las aplicaciones tradicionales. Normalmente en las aplicaciones Web, hay una recarga contínua de páginas cada vez que el usuario pulsa sobre un enlace. De esta forma se produce un tráfico muy alto entre el cliente y el servidor, llegado muchas veces, a recargar la misma página con un mínimo cambio. Otra de las desventajas de las tradicionales aplicaciones Web es la poca capacidad multimedia que posee. Para ver un vídeo es necesario usar un programa externo para su reproducción. En los entornos RIA, en cambio, no se producen recargas de página, ya que desde el principio se carga toda la aplicación, y sólo se produce comunicación con el servidor cuando se necesitan datos externos como datos de una Base de Datos o de otros ficheros externos. Las capacidades multimedia son totales gracias a que estos entornos tienen reproductores internos y no hace falta ningún reproductor del Sistema Operativo del usuario. Hay muchas herramientas para la creación de entornos RIA. Entre estas se puede mencionar las plataformas Adobe Flash, Adobe Flex y Adobe AIR de Adobe, AJAX, OpenLaszlo, Silverlight de Microsoft, JavaFX Script de Sun Microsystems y Bindows de MB Technologies. - Le Rich Internet Application (RIA) sono applicazioni web che possiedono le caratteristiche e le funzionalità delle tradizionali applicazioni per computer, senza però necessitare dell'installazione sul disco fisso. Le RIA si caratterizzano per la dimensione interattiva e per la velocità d'esecuzione. Infatti la parte dell'applicazione che elabora i dati è trasferita a livello client e fornisce una pronta risposta all'interfaccia utente, mentre la gran parte dei dati e dell'applicazione rimane sul server remoto, con notevole alleggerimento per il computer utente. Anche l'interazione con una RIA avviene in remoto, tramite un comune web browser. In un certo senso le RIA rappresentano una generazione di applicazioni che permette un'interazione totalmente rinnovata, fondata sul meglio delle caratteristiche funzionali e progettuali che finora erano prerogativa alternata del web o delle applicazioni desktop. Adobe Flex si sta recentemente (2006) affermando quale principale piattaforma tecnologica per la realizzazione di RIA. (it)

Dodatkowo użytkownik ma możliwość wprowadzania danych w dowolnie wybranej i wygodnej dla siebie kolejności.
