Renaldo "Obie" Benson was an American soul and R&B singer and songwriter. He was best known as the bass of Motown group The Four Tops, which he joined in 1953 and continued to perform with for over five decades, until April 8, 2005. He also co-wrote "What's Going On" which became a #2 hit for Marvin Gaye in 1971, and which Rolling Stone rated as #4 on their List of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time released in 2004.

Neben den Erfolgen mit seiner Band war Benson auch als Songschreiber für Motown tätig. Aus seiner Feder stammt unter anderem der Klassiker What's Going On von Marvin Gaye aus dem Jahr 1971. Benson starb am 1. Juli 2005 im Alter 69 Jahren an Lungenkrebs. Er hinterließ zwei Töchter. Nach Bensons Tod und dem Tod von Levi Stubbs im Oktober 2008 ist nur noch ein Gründungsmitglied der Gruppe, Abdul «Duke» Fakir, am Leben. Bereits 1997 starb Lawrence Payton an Krebs, er wurde durch Theo Peoples ersetzt.
