Generata verso il medioevo questa danza è giunta a noi attraverso molte modifiche ed è caratterizzata dalla vivacità del ballo molto frenetico (reel significa infatti mulinello) così come la musica. Tra i reel più famosi vi è il Busindre Reel di Hevia, oppure il tradizionale Cooley's Reel, ripreso da più musicisti.

Akcentowanie na mocną część taktu (1 i 3 uderzenie). Większość reeli ma strukturę dwuczęściową, każda część grana jest dwukrotnie, co daje ogólnie 32-taktowy utwór, który najczęściej powtarzany jest dwu- lub trzykrotnie i łączony z jednym lub dwoma innymi utworami granymi w ten sam sposób.
