Hamr played two years in the Czech league with HC Sparta Praha before moving to Sweden and Frölunda HC. After only one and a half season with Frölunda, he was traded to Färjestads BK. He played with Färjestad from 1998 to 2006, except the 2001/02 season which spent with Sparta. In 2006, Hamr won the Swedish Championship with Färjestad. After that season he signed with the Kloten Flyers of Switzerland.

Det blev nästan enbart spel i farmarlag men han fick dock prova på spel i NHL i fyra matcher för Ottawa Senators. Säsongen efter såg ungefär likadan ut, sju matcher för Ottawa Senators. Efter ytterligare några år i farmarligan flyttade han hem till Tjeckien och spelade två säsonger för Sparta Praha. Därefter spelade han för Västra Frölunda i Elitserien innan han säsongen efter kom till Färjestads BK som han representerat i sammanlagt sju säsonger. Säsongen 2001/2002 gjorde han åter en säsong hemma i Sparta Praha igen. Säsongen 2002/2003 gick han över till svenska Färjestads BK. Han vann sitt första SM-guld med Färjestads BK säsongen 2005/2006. Säsongen 2006/2007 spelade Radek Hamr för den schweiziska klubben Kloten Flyers, där han förenades med gamla lagkamraten Marcel Jenni. Hamrs bästa egenskaper är hans offensiva spel med bra spelsinne och ett bra skott.
