- Pythia is a heavy metal band from London, England. Pythia is a group of classically and heavy-metal inspired musicians. Lead singer Emily Ovenden is perhaps better know as a member of the No.1 selling classical act the Mediaeval Baebes and Classic FM favourite Celtic Legend. Drummer Marc Dyos and guitarist Ross White are originally from a thrash metal project ‘Descent’ and the line up is completed with Richard Holland on keyboards, Tim Neale on lead guitar and Andy Nixon-Corfield on bass. The name Pythia is taken from ancient Greece. The Pythia was the priestess at Apollo's oracle in Delphi who operated as a vehicle for Apollo's will. In keeping with this, Ovenden’s lyrics explore the darker side of life, love, passion and supernatural. Very early in their career, Pythia have secured live support slots for such well-known acts as Tarja Turunen, Ministry and Fields of the Nephilim. On 26 September 2008 Pythia played their first headline show at The Underworld venue in Camden, London. This followed the late cancellation of original headliners Amberian Dawn from Finland. The following day they played the Dames of Darkness festival in Birmingham before taking a break from live performances to complete the band's debut album and honour commitments to other projects. Their debut album, Beneath the Veiled Embrace, is due for release 12th October 2009, through Golden Axe Records. The album was mixed by Jacob Hansen, and features Brian Blessed with a reading of Suicide In The Trenches by Siegfried Sassoon. The first single to be released from the album Beneath The Veiled Embrace was Sarah (Bury Her) in August 2009, which included B-sides, an acoustic version of album track Tristan, and a cover of the Gary Moore classic Thunder Rising.
