In the United States, food styling, weapons and animals are often directly or indirectly within the property master's domain. The job is a collaboration with the director, production designer, cameraman, set decorator and other members of the production to physically express their stylistic and aesthetic requirements. They maintain their own budget. There are physical aspects of productions that are managed by specialists other than the property master, for example costume designers are responsible for the actors' dress, and weapons masters are responsible for any weapons (firearms, blades, staff-based or otherwise). In professional theatre the property master is responsible for the set up and organization of the props and smaller set pieces and may supervise stage crew.
- Il trovarobe è una particolare figura professionale che opera nel campo dello spettacolo, spaziando dal cinema al teatro alla televisione. Si tratta di un collaboratore che lavora in sinergia con l'apparatore, il decoratore, lo scenografo, il costumista e tutte quelle figure professionali che lavorano per l'allestimento artistico di un evento spettacolare. La sua particolare funzione consiste maggiormente nel reperire gli oggetti e le suppellettili necessarie ad un allestimento ed all'arredamento di un set: sono quindi fuori dal suo campo d'azione le scenografie e le luci, i costumi e l'attrezzistica (quest'ultima quando il trovarobe non si identifichi anche con l'attrezzista). Ancora più raramente (ed è spesso il caso di piccole produzioni), al trovarobe è richiesto di fabbricare appositamente gli oggetti.
