- A privacy policy is a legal document that disclose how a party retains, processes, discloses, and purges customer's data. Such examples could be the instance of a website providing information about the use of personal information - particularly personal information collected via the website - by the website owner. Privacy policies usually contain details of what personal information is collected, how the personal information may be used, the persons to whom the personal information may be disclosed, the security measures taken to protect the personal information, and whether the website uses cookies and/or web bugs. The exact contents of a privacy policy will depend upon the applicable law. For instance, there are significant differences between the EU data protection and US data privacy laws. Some websites also define their privacy policies using P3P or Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA), allowing browsers to automatically assess the level of privacy offered by the site.

Die Bedingungen, unter denen die Informationen an andere Organisationen weitergegeben werden können. Die Organisation übernimmt die Verantwortung, die gesammelten Daten zu schützen. Organisatorische Strukturen über die Policy hinaus (wie etwa ein Datenschutzbeauftragter) Kontrolle der Umsetzung und Umgang mit eventuellen Beschwerden In der EU haben Websitebetreiber umfangreiche datenschutzrechtliche Informationspflichten, die anhand einer Datenschutzerklärung auf der Website erfüllt werden können.
- Rekisteriseloste on Suomessa vuonna 1999 voimaan tulleen henkilötietolain henkilörekisterinpitäjältä edellyttämä dokumentti, josta selviävät muun muassa rekisterinpitäjän yhteystiedot, käsiteltävät henkilötiedot ja käsittelyn tarkoitus sekä tietojen luovuttamisen ja suojaamisen periaatteet. Rekisteriseloste on pääsääntöisesti pidettävä jokaisen saatavilla.
- Une politique de confidentialité est un contrat qui décrit comment une société retient, traite, publie et efface les données transmises par ses clients. Par exemple, un site web qui exige une inscription pour particper activement à ses forums devrait offrir une telle politique pour les données à caractères personnels qui lui sont confiées : âge, sexe, niveau d'études, etc. Une politique de confidentialité devrait habituellement contenir des clauses qui décrivent comment les informations personnelles sont archivées, comment elles peuvent être utilisées, les personnes à qui elles pourraient être transmises, les mesures de protection mises en place. Dans le cas de sites web, elle devrait également indiquer si le site a recours à des cookie. Certaines clauses diffèrent d'un pays à l'autre, selon les lois locales en vigueur.

Mogą to być dane zbierane automatycznie przez serwer lub podawane przez użytkownika podczas np. rejestracji. w jaki sposób są wykorzystywane, a w szczególności czy są przekazywane innym firmom. w jaki sposób właściciel witryny internetowej będzie się kontaktował z użytkownikiem. w jaki sposób można dokonać zmian w danych osobowych użytkownika. w jaki sposób są zabezpieczane dane pobierane od użytkowników. W Polsce nadzór nad przetwarzaniem danych osobowych sprawuje Generalny Inspektor Ochrony Danych Osobowych.
