- Príncipe is the smaller of the two major islands of São Tomé and Príncipe lying off the west coast of Africa. It has an area of 136 km² and a population of around 5,000 people. It rises in the south to 948 metres at Pico de Príncipe, in a thickly forested area forming part of the Obo National Park. The north and centre of the island were formerly plantations but largely reverted to forest. The island forms one province and one district named Pagué. The languages other than Portuguese includes Principense or Lunguyê with a few Forro speakers. The island has one town, Santo António, and an airport, as well as some small villages including Bela Vista, Bombom, Futuro, Neves Ferreira, Paciencia, Ponta Fonte, Ribeira Ize, Santo Antonio de Ureca, Vila Rosa and more - few connected to the small road network. The island is a heavily eroded volcano over three million years old, surrounded by other smaller islands including Ilheu Bom Bom, Ilhéu Caroço, Tinhosa Grande and Tinhosa Pequena. Príncipe was the site where Einstein's Theory of Relativity was experimentally proved successful by Arthur Stanley Eddington and his team during an eclipse in 1919.

- Principe is een eilandje in de Golf van Guinee. Het vormt samen met Sao Tomé (het hoofdeiland) en enkele kleine eilandjes het Afrikaanse land Sao Tomé en Principe. Principe is een stuk kleiner dan het hoofdeiland Sao Tomé, de oppervlakte bedraagt 136 vierkante kilometer en er wonen ongeveer vijfduizend mensen, waarvan de meesten in het dorpje Santo António. Verder zijn er enkele kleine dorpjes waaronder Infanta Dom Henrique. Er is een vliegveld en er zijn simpele wegen. In het zuiden van het eiland ligt een heuvel van 948 meter hoog, Pico de Príncipe. Dit gedeelte is bedekt met bos, dat hoort bij het Obo Nationaal Park. Het noorden en het midden van het eiland waren vroeger bestemd voor plantages maar dit gebied is thans ook bedekt met een groot bos.

Wyspa stanowi jednocześnie jedną z dwóch prowincji kraju oraz jeden z siedmiu dystryktów o nazwie Pagué. Powierzchnia wyspy wynosi 142 km², a zamieszkuje ją około 5,7 tys. osób (1997). Najwyższym szczytem na wyspie jest Pico de Príncipe - 948 m n.p.m. Porastający go las objęty jest ochroną w Obo National Park. Północna i środkowa część wyspy zajęte są przez plantacje, uprawia się tutaj kawę, kakaowiec, palmę kokosową. Jedynym osiedlem miejskim jest Santo António (1,2 tys. mieszk. - 1999), ponadto znajduje się tu kilka mniejszych wiosek.
