- Pinkpop Festival, or Pinkpop for short, is an annual rock festival held at Landgraaf, Netherlands. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the oldest annual festival in the world. It is held annually on the Pentecost weekend (Pinksteren in Dutch, hence the name). In 1970, the first festival took place in Geleen, now part of municipality Sittard-Geleen and was held on the Monday following that weekend. Today, Pinkpop is a 3 day festival, from Saturday to Monday, and visited by approximately 60,000 people a day with performances on 3 separate stages. In 35 years, 1.5 million people have attended Pinkpop. More than 500 musical acts have played at the festival. In 1994 (the 25th edition), it was decided to sell only 60,000 tickets, to prevent overcrowding due to the popularity of the festival. In 1995, it was made into a 2-day festival. Two years later, in 1997, this was further expanded to three days. 2007 saw a spin-off, later in the year, on 11 August, called Pinkpop Classic, for an older rock audience, with bands that previously performed there in past decades. In 2008 Pinkpop was for the first time in its history, not held on Pentecost weekend which fell too early that year for the convenience of fans and performers alike.

Der Begriff „Pinkpop“ ist eine Zusammensetzung aus zwei Wörtern: Dem niederländischen Pinksteren und dem international benutzten Musikgattungsbegriff Pop. Ein Teil der Einnahmen kommt der Hilfsorganisation Amnesty International zugute, welche direkt auf und neben den Bühnen auf ihr Wirken aufmerksam machen darf.

Le nom Pinkpop vient de la date à laquelle le festival est organisée : depuis 1970, à l'exception près de 2008, le festival est organisé durant le week-end de la Pentecôte, Pinksteren en néerlandais.

Nel 1994 (la 25a edizione), fu deciso di vendere solo 60.000 biglietti, per evitare il sovraffollamento dovuto alla popolarità del festival. Nel 1995, l'evento si è svolto in 2 giorni di festa. Due anni più tardi, nel 1997, è stato ulteriormente ampliato fino a tre giorni. Nel 2007 è stata prevista una seconda edizione annuale, in data 11 agosto, chiamata Pinkpop Classic, con bands che precedentemente hanno suonato al Pinkpop.

Pinkpop is het het langstlopende jaarlijks terugkerende popfestival ter wereld. Wel is het festival in haar geschiedenis een aantal keer van locatie gewisseld. In 2008 werd het evenement voor het eerst niet tijdens Pinksteren gehouden; in 2010 zal dit opnieuw het geval zijn. In 2009 beleefde Pinkpop zijn 40e editie.

Odbywa się co roku w weekend, w który przypada święto Zesłania Ducha Świętego (od nazwy tego święta w języku niderlandzkim Pinksteren pochodzi nazwa festiwalu). W 1970 pierwszy festiwal odbył się w Geelen (obecnie w gminie Sittard-Geleen). Obecnie festiwal trwa trzy dni, od soboty do poniedziałku. Na festiwal przybywa corocznie ok. 60000 ludzi.
