Peter Slaghuis was a Dutch DJ, producer and remixer, whose work was mostly released under the name Hithouse (a literal translation of his last name — slag, a hit, a beat; and huis, house). He was a figure in the European dance music scene in the 1980s, producing popular remixes of various hits (most notably the "Long Vocal Dutch Mix" of "I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz).

Slaghuis' career was cut short by his death in a car accident in 1991. Slaghuis was part of the VideoKids group, which released the song "Woodpeckers From Space" in 1985, featuring Slaghuis in the video.

In 1988 neemt hij onder de naam Hithouse (een vrije vertaling van zijn achternaam) zijn eerste grote hit en bekendste nummer "Jack To The Sound Of The Underground" op, dat uitgroeit tot een wereldhit. "Jack To The Sound Of The Underground" is een van de eerste platen met een acid geluid in de mix. Het Belgische platenlabel ARS pikt het nummer op en brengt het ook in Engeland uit, waar het in oktober 1988 de achtste plaats van de UK Singles Chart haalt. Van daaruit wordt het in heel Europa een grote hit, behalve in Nederland waar slechts de 22ste plaats gehaald wordt. Pikant detail: de sample die hij in zijn hit gebruikt, afkomstig van "You're no good for me" (een hitje van Kelly Charles), wordt in 1994 door de The Prodigy overgenomen in hun nummer No Good, dat al snel de doorbraak voor die groep betekent. De opvolger "Move your feet to the rhythm of the beat" klonk gelijkaardig aan zijn voorganger en werd alweer een grote hit in 1989. Met ruim één miljoen verkochte exemplaren van beide singles richt hij een studio in en begint hij een eigen label, waarop hij zijn producties met andere acts uitbrengt. Samen met Paul Elstak - die ooit het mixen van Slaghuis leerde - werkte Slaghuis aan een album van de act Holy Noise. Een jaar later komt de opvolger van dit album "Organised Crime" uit. De daarvan getrokken single "James Brown Is Still Alive" (als reactie op de houseklassieker "James Brown is dead" van L.A. Style) haalt de top-10 in de Nederlandse hitlijst. De Nederlandse house- en sample-pionier verongelukt echter op 5 september 1991 met zijn auto op weg naar huis na een optreden in Amsterdam. Vlak daarvoor maakt hij nog een remix van "Pump Up The Jam" van Technotronic. Paul Elstak zet het project Holy Noise nog voort na de dood van Slaghuis. Zijn platenlabel wordt voortgezet door platenmaatschappij Midtown en later door ARS in België.
