PA Cyber is the largest and most successful of Pennsylvania's 11 cyber charter schools. With 9,000 students statewide, PA Cyber has enjoyed nearly exponential growth since its founding in 2000. Students enroll in either real-time courses, known also as virtual classroom or synchronous classes, or self-paced courses, also called asynchronous. In the virtual classroom, students may interact by audio and digital tablet with their classmates or with the teacher, individually or as a group. Live class sessions are recorded so a student may review as many times as necessary to understand. In self-paced classes, students advance through lessons at their own pace, and communicate by email and telephone with the course instructor. Many students use self-paced classes to either catch up or move ahead of their grade level. Every PA Cyber student receives a custom designed course of study to meet his or her individual needs and abilities, along with a computer, all-in-one printer and accessories, all instructional materials and high-speed internet access. Parents work with their child’s instructional supervisor to keep the student on task, motivated, and challenged. As a public school, PA Cyber provides services at no cost to students and families. Asked why they chose PA Cyber, families cite the quality and breadth of curriculum, the flexibility of pacing and scheduling, the quality of instruction and service, and the safety and convenience of going to school in their own homes. PA Cyber provides an education to all students, including those in gifted-talented areas and children with special needs. PA Cyber
