His debut EP, April & I, was released to much critical acclaim in March 2007 on his own Label Ray Gun Records. He signed to Fascination Records in the following month, and his released debut single Your Loss that September, but failed to chart. His subsequent debut album Moon Rock and follow up single I Will Make You Disappear were both cancelled for release and he was dropped in April 2008. After a successful appearance at Fuji Rock festival in 2007 he released Moon Rock with EMI Japan in November 2008. In 2007/2008 he wrote and recorded a song called 'Ocean' with legendary Beach Boys lyricist and collaborator Stephen Kalinich. For most of 2008 he played bass and backing vocals for Brighton band Stars & Sons and still assists from time to time. Paul commissioned Passion Pictures to make an animated movie for his album 'April & I' which was completed in late 2008. It features the work of 10 different up and coming animators each exploring new innovative ways of animating to music. Andy Martin's animation for Honkin' On My Crackpipe managed over 30,000 views on YouTube in the week it was uploaded. Paul plans to release this as well as the overdue 'Moon Rock' LP in the UK in 2009. Paul Steel is currently in his home studio working on his next project ready for 2009. His website is particularly unusual, and has garnered much critical praise.
