Patrick Vincent McNamara was a Democratic United States Senator (1955-1966) from the state of Michigan. McNamara was born in North Weymouth, Massachusetts and attended the public schools in nearby Weymouth and the Fore River Apprentice School in Quincy. He moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1921, and became active in union and civic affairs. He worked in the construction industry 1921-1955. He was director of the Detroit area of the Office of Price Administration, Rent Division 1942-1945.

He was chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging in the Eighty-seventh Congress, the U.S. Senate Committee on Public Works in the Eighty-eighth and Eighty-ninth Congresses. He died on April 30, 1966, aged 71, and was interred in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. McNamara was a member of the Americans for Democratic Action. The Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building was named for him.

Dem Stadtrat von Detroit gehörte McNamara von 1946 bis 1947 an, dem Bildungsausschuss der Stadt dann ab 1949. 1954 erfolgte schließlich seine Wahl in den Senat der Vereinigten Staaten, wo er sein Mandat ab dem 3. Januar 1955 wahrnahm. 1960 wurde er für weitere sechs Jahre bestätigt, doch noch vor Ablauf seiner zweiten Amtszeit verstarb Patrick McNamara am 30. April 1966 im Bethesda Naval Hospital. Während seiner Zeit im Senat war er unter anderem Vorsitzender des Ausschusses für öffentliche Bauten. Das Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building, ein Bürohochhaus in Detroit, wurde nach ihm benannt.
