He was one of the lead characters in the BBC TV comedy series The High Life playing Captain Hilary Duff (this character was in no way connected to the singer/actress of the same name, who was only a young child when the series was filmed in 1994). He also appeared in the 1997 Agatha Christie's Poirot episode, Dumb Witness. , and for the BBC in My Son My Son with Michael Williams. His extensive theatre credits include The Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B by J P Donleavy in London's West End. In Autumn 2007, he toured in the play Donkeys' Years by Michael Frayn, visiting Richmond Theatre, Richmond upon Thames on 5-15 September; Theatre Royal Brighton on 17-22 September; New Victoria Theatre, Woking on 1-6 October; New Theatre, Cardiff on 9-13 October and Churchill Theatre, Bromley on 22-27 October. The tour was directed by Michael Simkins one of the previous London cast, and also featured Sara Crowe, Peter Forber, Mark Hadfield, Ian Hallard, Richard Hope, Ian Lavender, Jamie Newall, and Norman Pace. He was married to English actress Marsha Fitzalan from 4 July 1977 until their divorce in 1995. They have three children: Mariella Celia (born 1982), Jemima Carrie (1984) and Frederick William Hamlet (1987).
