His style in some songs is similar to John Bonham's with "Aeroplane Blues" being one example. Both Carney and Dan Auerbach, the lead singer and guitarist for The Black Keys, record with Nonesuch Records. The group's first album The Big Come Up and second album, Thickfreakness, were recorded in Carney's old basement in Akron on a street called Richmond Place. Besides The Black Keys, Carney has previously played in another band with his brother called 10% Animal, in which he played guitar, however they don't appear to be a band any longer, as their MySpace was deleted, and it's become hard to find mp3s of their music. Carney is now in another band with various Audio Eagle multi-instrumentalists called Drummer, where he plays bass guitar. In late 2005, Carney started his own record label and studio, Audio Eagle. As of May 13, 2008, Audio Eagle has released albums by Gil Mantera's Party Dream, Houseguest, Beaten Awake, and Royal Bangs. Carney also joined the 9th annual Independent Music Awards judging panel to assist independent musicians' careers. In 2009, while fellow Black Key Dan Auerbach was on his solo tour, Carney formed a new band called Drummer in which he plays bass. It was named this due to the fact that each of its members had drummed in another band previously.
