Pasquale Del Pezzo, Duke of Cajanello, (May 2, 1859–June 20, 1936), was a Neapolitan mathematician. He was born in Berlin (where his father was a representative of the Neapolitan king) on 2 May 1859. He died in Naples on 20 June 1936. His wife was the Swedish writer Anne Charlotte Leffler, sister of the great mathematician Gösta Mittag-Leffler (1846-1927). At the University of Naples, he received first a law degree in 1880 and then in 1882 a math degree.

He became a pre-eminent professor at that university, teaching projective geometry, and remained at that University, as rector, faculty president, etc. He was mayor of Naples from 1913 till 1917, starting in 1919 he became a senator of Italy until his dead. He is remembered particularly for first describing what became known as a Del Pezzo surface.

Er wurde als Sohn des napolitanischen Botschafters in Preußen Gaetano Del Pezzo (1830–1889) und dessen Frau Maria Angelica Caracciolo'(1836–1921) geboren. Er studierte dann in Universität von Neapel Jura und machte 1880 seinen Doktor, schon zwei Jahre später 1882 machte er den Doktor in Mathematik. Er korrespondierte mit zahlreichen bekannten Mathematikern seiner Zeit so auch mit Magnus Gösta Mittag-Leffler. So lernte er auch dessen geschiedene Schwester und Schriftstellerin Anne Charlotte Leffler (1849–1892) kennen. Die beiden heirateten 1890. Ab dem 29. November 1894 war Del Pezzo Professor für Höhere Geometrie an der Universität von Neapel, ab 3. Dezember 1905 auch für projektive Geometrie. Er wurde Dekan der Naturwissenschaften und später auch zweimal Rektor der Universität, zunächst von 26. September 1909 bis 1911 und bei zweiten mal 4. August 1919 bis 1921). In der Zwischenzeit von 1914 bis 1917 war er Bürgermeister von Neapel. Ab dem 6. Oktober 1919 bis zu seinem Tode war er Mitglied des italienischen Senats. Er war dort zunächst für die liberal Demokraten, später für die Demokratische Union. Von 1932 bis 1934 war er Präsident der Akademie der Wissenschaften. Er wurde für seine Verdienste vielfach geehrt, so war er Mitglied der Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei und vieler Mathematischer Gesellschaften in Europa. In der Mathematik bleibt sein Name durch die Del-Pezzo-Fläche bekannt.
