Jeff Hawkins' comments at D5 seemed to imply that this was possible because of a Linux OS and Flash-storage. Its features included wireless connections through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Integrated software included an E-Mail client which Palm claimed could sync with the Treo E-Mail client, the Opera web browser and the Documents To Go office suite (however, under "System Info Details," the version of DTG was stated as 1.001--while the current Palm OS version was 10.0--indicating DTG was not a Palm OS application running under an emulation layer). The E-Mail client was not be able to pass through the Wi-Fi connection. The only way this e-mail reader/composer/replier program was able to retrieve/send e-mail was through synchronization with a supported smartphone such as Palm's Treo, although the Foleo itself could use other programs to access email through wifi. According to Palm Inc. , the Foleo was supposed to have been available in the summer of 2007 at a price of $499 after an introductory $100 rebate. However, as of September 4, 2007, all development was cancelled for the Foleo. Palm's CEO, Ed Colligan, announced that he wished to focus on Palm's core product instead. Had the Foleo been released in the market it could have been a founding device in the recently defined netbook category of portable computers.
