L’operazione Tidal Wave coinvolse 178 B-24 partiti dalla base aerea di Bengasi in Libia che volarono per più di 3.900km. Il brigadiere generale Uzal Girard Ent era al comando delle forze americane durante la missione, passata alla storia come una della più costose per le perdite di aerei ed uomini d’euipaggio.
