The label was founded in San Francisco in 1995 by Chris Smith. Om Records releases both artist albums and various compilations. The company now has plans to open offices in London, Barcelona and Ibiza. Om Records hosts various nightclub events, and is a frequent resident company at Nikki Beach, Seattle's Trinity, Mansion in Miami, SmartBar in Chicago, Fabric in London, Pacha in New York City and Ibiza, Balance in Los Angeles, Sacred Grounds in Los Angeles, El Divino in Ibiza, The Loft and Fonfone in Barcelona and is a regular at many more of the world's superclubs and the Coachella Music and WMC music festivals. Om Records is noted for funky house and deep house. Some of Om's artists include Kaskade, Mark Farina, J Boogie, King Kooba, DJ Colette, DJ Heather, Miguel Migs, DJ Sneak, DJ Fluid, Andy Caldwell, Derrick Carter, Marques Wyatt, and others.
