Om is a duo formed in 2003 by the rhythm section of the disbanded stoner doom metal band Sleep. The band's first three albums feature Al Cisneros on vocals and bass and Chris Hakius on drums. Their music is similar in structure to Tibetan chanting. In December 2007 the band performed in Jerusalem, their performance lasting over five hours in duration. A portion of that show was released on 12" vinyl by Southern Lord "OM - Live at Jerusalem.

A portion of that show was released on 12" vinyl by Southern Lord "OM - Live at Jerusalem. " Their 2007 album Pilgrimage was chosen as Mojo Magazine's Underground Album of the Year. On January 31, 2008 Hakius left the band and was replaced by drummer Emil Amos. OM has since released a single featuring the song Gebel Barkal accompanied by the band's b-side dub mix, "Version. " This is the first OM release to feature Amos. The 7" 45 was released August 15, 2008 on Sub Pop.

Das Drone-Duo Om, gegründet von Al Cisneros (Bass, Gesang) und Chris Hakius (Drums), ist hauptsächlich nur auf Bass-Gitarre, Vocals und Schlagzeug ausgelegt. Der Gesang ist Mantra-und Meditationsgesangsähnlich und erzeugt mit Begleitung der verzerrten, als auch unverzerrten Bassgitarre eine psychedelische und hypnotisierende Ambiente, was aber auch als kraftvollen Stoner Rock angesehen werden kann. Ihre Werke im lyrischen Bereich sind transzendent und bewusstseinserweitert, inhaltlich beschreiben ihre Songtexte sowohl abstrakte, kosmische als auch naturmystische/metaphysische Kategorien, Vorstellungen und Ereignisse. Das Schlagzeug ist sowohl rhythmisch und kräftig als auch ruhig und meditativ, vor allem hat das Schlagzeug eine deutlich stärkere Bassrate im Vergleich zu anderen Bands. Daher hat die Band auch einen großen Anteil in der Drone-Genre. Ihr Debütalbum „Variations On A Theme“ nahm Om in 2004 auf, im Herbst 2006 kam der Nachfolger „Conference Of The Birds“, welches nur 2 Songs beinhaltet. Das bisher letzte Album „Pilgrimage", bestehend aus 4 Titeln, wurde in 2007 veröffentlicht und waren danach auf Tour in den Vereinigten Staaten, Europa und auch in Jerusalem. Anfang 2008 verließ Schlagzeuger Chris Hakius die Band und wurde durch Emil Amos ersetzt, mit dem sie mittlerweile am kommenden Album „God is Good" arbeiten.
