Oltchim, is one of the largest chemical companies in Romania and in Southeastern Europe, established in 1966 with the name of Râmnicu Vâlcea Chemical Works. It began to be built in July 1966. The first plant, Mercury Cells Electrolysis, was commissioned on 28 July 1968. In 1990, a government decision, turned the Râmnicu Vâlcea Chemical Works into a joint-stock company, called Oltchim S.A.

Combinatul este amplasat într-o zonă limitrofă a oraşului Râmnicu Vâlcea bogată în resurse: sare, petrol, cărbune, calcar şi apă; de asemenea are legături prin conducte subterane de etilenă şi propilenă cu Arpechim Piteşti, parte a grupului Petrom-OMV. Compania a fost înfiinţată în anul şi este deţinută de către statul România iar din 8.0. un pachet de acţiuni este listat la Bursa de Valori Bucureşti. În prezent (iunie 009), acţionariatul Oltchim este format din: Ministerul Economiei (cu 54,8% din acţiuni), PCC SE (5%) şi alţi acţionari, cu 33,03%. Oltchim comercializează policlorură de vinil (PVC), sodă caustică, propenoxid, propilenglicol, polieteri polioli sau materiale de construcţii în peste 80 de ţări.
