Oldham Athletic Association Football Club is an English association football club based at Boundary Park, on Sheepfoot Lane in Oldham, Greater Manchester. The club currently competes in the Football League One, the third tier of the English league. It is incorporated as Oldham Athletic (2004) Association Football Club Limited, but is more commonly known as Oldham Athletic or by its nickname The Latics. Obwohl die traditionellen Rivalen des Vereins Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City und der FC Bury nicht mehr gegen Oldham spielen und in anderen Ligen aktiv sind, pflegt der Verein weiterhin Rivalitäten mit den Klubs aus Yorkshire, Huddersfield Town und Bradford City, sowie in etwas geringerem Ausmaß mit den Nachbarvereinen FC Blackpool und den Tranmere Rovers.

  • Oldham Athletic is een Engelse voetbalclub. Na de stichting in 1895 werd de eerste jaren in competities in Manchester gespeeld tot ze in 1907 in de liga stapten. In hun eerste seizoen behaalden ze een 3de plaats. De club kon al snel doorstijgen naar de eerste klasse en tijdens het uitbreken van de Eerste Wereldoorlog behaalden ze hun beste resultaat, 2de na Everton. Door de oorlog werd het voetbal enkele jaren stilgelegd, toen de competitie hervatte in 1919 waren de meeste spelers met voetbalpensioen of gesneuveld in de oorlog. Ze konden nog enkele jaren de degradatie afwenden maar gingen dan onverbiddelijk naar 2de klasse in 1923, het zou 68 jaar duren vooraleer ze zouden terugkeren. Tot 1935 konden ze stand houden in 2de klasse maar degradeerden dan naar 3de. Ook de Tweede Wereldoorlog had een slecht effect op de club die slechte resultaten boekte. In de jaren '60 had de club even een opflakkering en keerde terug naar 3de maar in 1970 speelde de club weer in 4de en stond voor een slechte financiële situatie. Jimmy Frizzell werd speler-trainer en zorgde voor een ommekeer. In 1974 speelden ze voor het eerst in 20 jaar weer in 2de. Frizzell bleef trainer tot 1982. In 1991 promoveerde de club naar 1ste klasse en speelde zo in het allereerste seizoen van de Premier League. In 1994 degradeerde de club opnieuw, drie jaar later belandden ze voor het eerst sinds 23 jaar weer in 3de. Momenteel speelt de club in de League One, of 3de klasse.

They reached the 1990 Football League Cup Final and won the Football League Second Division title in 1991, ending 68 years outside the top tier of English football.
